In addition to nine citations issued by the NYC Building Department, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued federal citations for eleven violations to SP&K Construction, of Brooklyn, NY, where one worker was killed and four injured as a result of a construction accident in Brighton Beach in November, 2011.
Recently, a mechanic was sentenced for his part in a 2008 NYC crane accident the left two workers dead. Given that the mechanic is the only person to admit criminal wrongdoing in the accident, the mechanic's sentence - a year of community service - has angered family members of the workers killed in the accident.
Since January 2012, the New York City Police Department has made 327 arrests and issued 555 summonses to public school students. The numbers reveal an increase compared to police data from October through December of 2011, where 279 students were arrested.
