Tragic School Bus Accident in Queens Leaves Woman Dead

On Behalf of | Mar 20, 2018 | Motor Vehicle Accidents, Pedestrian Accidents

A woman was killed in a fatal school bus accident in Queens earlier this month. The victim was crossing the street when the bus attempted a left turn. The vehicle struck the woman and killed her instantly.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Kew Gardens Road and 82nd Road around 7 in the morning. Reports from the accident scene show snow falling at a fairly good rate but it’s unclear whether decreased visibility or slick road conditions could have played a part in the deadly collision.

There were three children on the bus at the time of the accident and though they weren’t injured in the crash the emotional toll that this fatal bus accident in New York City will have on them for the rest of their lives is incalculable.

NYPD officers investigating this latest school bus accident in Queens don’t suspect any criminality but a thorough investigation is still warranted. No doubt they will be examining the bus driver’s record and whether or not that individual was distracted at the time of the crash.

National statistics show a disturbing amount of bus drivers entrusted with the very lives of our young students have sketchy pasts. Indeed, an investigative team found drivers still behind the wheel with histories serious traffic violations, drug and alcohol related charges, and even suspended licenses.

When we place our children in the hands of the school, whether it’s the Department of Education or a private school, we expect them to arrive back home safely. If the DOE or the private school and the transportation company isn’t doing enough to safeguard those students and children get hurt, parents can take legal action-regardless of whether the driver faces criminal charges.
