School Bus Accident in New York City Sends 9 to Hospital

On Behalf of | Feb 1, 2019 | Bus Accidents

Nine victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and observation after a violent school bus accident in Brooklyn late last month. The crash occurred at the intersection of East 22nd Street and Farragut Road in the Ditmas Park neighborhood of Brooklyn at around 8:30 in the morning.

It appears as if the school bus was traveling east on Farragut when a car driven crossed into the travel lane from East 22nd Street. The bus struck the car at speed, spinning it one hundred and eighty degrees and driving it up onto the sidewalk. A pedestrian narrowly avoided being struck by the out of control car.

The bus was filled with students on their way to a nearby school. All of the parties involved in the Brooklyn school bus accident were taken to Kings County Hospital. Three of the victims required medical treatment but every victim received a full medical check-up.

To date, no criminal charges have been filed against any of the drivers involved in this terrifying school bus crash in Brooklyn.

It is difficult at this point to determine which driver was at fault for this accident. The actions or inaction of each driver will determine who was at fault. In addition, fault can also rest with the driver who could have or should have avoided this accident. When it is determined who was at fault, the owner and the driver of each vehicle can be held responsible for all the unpaid expenses and injuries suffered by the eight victims that were sent to the hospital.

Under New York’s no-fault law, the injured children will be entitled to benefits to pay for all health related expenses from the insurance for the bus. This is separate and apart from the claim for pain and suffering which can be brought against the owners and drivers of each vehicle.
