Brooklyn Boy Dies in Drowning Accident at a Waterpark

On Behalf of | Aug 16, 2019 | Drowning Accident

A terribly drowning accident has claimed the life of a nine-year-old Brooklyn boy. The child was on a camp trip with a group of others and adult supervisors from Belzer Talmud Torah when tragedy struck. The group had traveled to a waterpark in New Jersey for a fun summer outing with several other groups. Somehow the nine-year-old drowned in this very public place with hundreds of people around and paid lifeguards on duty.

Reports show that EMTs were called to Sahara Sam’s Oasis water Park in New Jersey around 7:30 PM on July 30th. They attempted CPR procedures and tried to revive the child but there was nothing they could do. He was declared dead at the scene. Police immediately locked the waterpark down and began an extensive investigation into this horrific drowning accident. The park had been closed to the public for a private event at the time. There were, reportedly, around 800 children in the park at the time.

Reports from the accident scene show that it was a lifeguard who spotted the boy in one of the pools at the park and pulled his unconscious body from the water prior to attempting CPR. What the police investigation reveals will determine whether the waterpark and/or the camp would be held responsible for the boy’s death.

Both the waterpark and the camp had a responsibility to keep the boy reasonably safe from harm. If the waterpark permitted the boy entry in the pool which should have been closed off and if the camp was not properly supervising the child, both could be held responsible for the child’s injuries and subsequent death. In similar drowning accidents in New York City, park owners, camps and schools have been held liable for fatal or near-fatal accidents.
