Motorcycle Accident in The Bronx Leaves One Dead

On Behalf of | Jun 17, 2020 | Injuries, Motor Vehicle Accidents

A man was killed in a motorcycle accident earlier this month on Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx. The individual was traveling westbound when his bike was apparently rear-ended by an automobile. While this type of motorcycle accident in New York City is not common, it can be just as deadly. EMTs rushed the man to Jacobi Medical Center but his wounds were too severe. He did not survive.

The woman who was driving the Toyota which struck the motorcycle stayed at the scene and was not immediately charged with a crime.

Rear-end motorcycle accidents are not common. They represent just a fraction of the total motorcycle accidents in New York City. More common are left-turn accidents and head-on collisions. However, when rear-end motorcycle accidents do occur, they’re often deadly because the bike’s riders are often thrown from their bike and come into contact with moving vehicle. Even if not, the force of the impact with the roadway is enough to cause serious injuries.

These types of collisions often result in multiple and complex fractures limb fractures, serious life-threatening injuries such as Traumatic Brain Injury, neck and spinal cord injuries, and deadly internal injuries.

The thing that all rear-end motorcycle accidents have in common is that-barring any mitigating circumstances-the driver of the vehicle is always at-fault and therefore liable for the pain and suffering, lost time from work and medical expenses of the injured victim. Under New York’s traffic laws, every driver is charged with the responsibility to see what is there to be seen. Distraction, recklessness, and disregard for the law are not defenses.

That means accident victims can bring civil claims for their injuries and financial losses from the owner and operator of the motor vehicle.

If you’ve been struck by an out-of-control or distracted driver, you too may be entitled to financial a considerable amount of compensation.
