New York City School Bus Accident Sends Nine to the Hospital

We put our children on school buses every day and expect them to make it to their destinations safely but that’s not always the case. A terrifying New York City school bus accident involving a taxi cab sent nine people to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. On March 11th, a Brooklyn bus carrying 6 school children (all under the age of 12) flipped over after a taxi cab struck the front of the bus at a busy Bedford-Stuyvesant intersection. All of the students were taken to an area hospital for observation while the bus driver and matron were hospitalized for undisclosed injuries.

The children on board reportedly attend P.S. 53 and the Academy for Environmental Leadership and were rescued shortly after the crash by concerned citizens who witnessed the terrifying ordeal.

The Brooklyn school bus accident was caught on security cameras. It was clear to see that the cabby was driving recklessly, causing the crash. The video showed that the cab ran a red light shortly before smashing into the school bus with so much force that the bus flipped and the cab continued down the street before striking a light pole just inches from the facade of a corner shop. NYPD has reported that the cab driver will be criminally charged with regard to this accident.

Local residents told a reporter from CBS 2 News on the scene that the intersection is extremely dangerous with a long history of crashes due to imprudent speed. However, this is the first time in memory that a school bus was involved in such an accident.
