Bronx Pedestrian Accident Leaves Man in Critical Condition

A series of accidents in ended with one elderly man in jail and another in the hospital fighting for his life. The bizarre pedestrian accident in the Bronx occurred in broad daylight as a vehicle that had--just moments before--been involved in an auto accident struck an individual in the very same parking lot. The driver then proceeded to flee the scene but ended up striking yet another vehicle further down the street.

Early in the afternoon of Friday, April 4th, 72-year old James Colemen crashed into a vehicle in the parking lot of Western Beef, a popular restaurant on Rosedale Avenue. As he was trying to flee the scene of the initial accident, he struck the unnamed 60-year old pedestrian in the parking lot. He continued to flee, leaving the individual on the ground, but struck a parked car further down the street. Colemen was eventually stopped but only when the driver of the parked car boxed his vehicle in.

Rescue crews arrived and took the injured pedestrian to Jacobi Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was listed in critical condition.

Police arrested Colemen-the driver-and charged him with a list of crimes including leaving the scene of an accident; operating under the influence of drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

This bizarre chain of events shows just how unpredictably these pedestrian accidents can occur in New York City. Unfortunately however, it's often the pedestrian that bears the brunt of the collision with injuries ranging from broken bones to spinal injuries to head trauma. Children and the elderly are at the highest risk of auto/pedestrian accidents in the city and, unfortunately, often suffer the most.
