Subway Accident in New York Leaves Man in Serious Condition

On Behalf of | May 16, 2017 | Subway Accidents

A subway accident in New York left a man fighting for his life earlier this week after he was struck in the face by a passing train. The accident occurred early on the afternoon of April 30th at the 96th Street Station in Manhattan. The unidentified victim was standing near the edge of the platform when the train zipped past and somehow struck him in the face.

EMTs arrived on scene within minutes and found the man with severe facial trauma. They were able to stabilize him and transport him to nearby St. Luke’s Hospital where he was listed in serious condition. Reports state that the man is likely to survive his injuries but it’s unclear how long his recovery will be. He is likely facing a series of reconstructive surgeries even after the initial damage is healed.

Eyewitnesses to this horrific Manhattan subway accident said the train operator acted as if he hadn’t even seen the man-before or after he was struck. Indeed, the train actually continued on to the next station as if nothing had happened. Investigators will undoubtedly be looking into whether the operator was alert at the time of the accident and, perhaps, whether they were distracted or not.

The victim in this case may have grounds for a personal injury lawsuit as he was simply standing on the platform at the time of the subway accident in Manhattan, not on the tracks as so many unfortunate people have been in the past. (Just last week a New Jersey Airman was killed in a train accident in New York City while attempting to cross the tracks.)
