Taxi Accident in the Bronx Kills Passenger

On Behalf of | May 10, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

The passenger in a livery cab was killed earlier this week when the vehicle he was riding in smashed into a concrete barrier near a freeway onramp. The fatal taxi accident in New York City happened early on the morning of April 13th when the cab, driven by an unidentified 22-year-old man, jumped the curb near the entrance ramp of the Bronx River Parkway. The speeding vehicle then smashed into the solid cement barrier dealing catastrophic damage to the vehicle and the people inside.

Rescue crews arrived on scene and transported both the passenger and the driver to the hospital but the passenger-an unidentified 25-year-old-died shortly after being admitted. The driver was seriously injured but is expected to survive.

While the NYPD hasn’t released an official cause for the deadly crash, a preliminary investigation of this taxi accident in the Bronx shows the car was likely speeding at the time. Police can conclude this from physical evidence including the amount of damage to the vehicle and skid marks. If indeed the vehicle was speeding at the time of the accident, the driver of the cab could very well be criminally and financially liable for the passenger’s death.

In addition to criminal charges and jail time, the driver and owner of the vehicle could be facing a civil lawsuit seeking financial compensation for the victim’s family members. The immediate family members could recover compensation for the victim’s pain and suffering for the time he survived after the accident, unpaid medical and of funeral expenses and financial support to family members that the victim would have given over his lifetime.
