Amusement Park Accident Leaves Three Injured

On Behalf of | Jun 14, 2019 | Playground Accidents

A terrifying amusement park accident left three victims injured late last month. Story highlights the dangers of nearby amusement parks in New York and throughout the northeast.

Officials say that the three individuals (one adult woman and two children) were riding a log flume at a small amusement park in Southern California when something went terribly wrong. The log in which they were riding somehow jammed in a turn and all of the victims were thrown clear. Making matters worse, the riders were trapped in the rushing water by the log itself.

One of the victims was rushed to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition.

Firefighters arrive on scene to help extricate the victims. An investigation into the cause of the amusement park accident revealed that a simple malfunction had dramatically decreased the water flow on a portion of the ride’s track, making that stretch extremely dangerous.

Small amusement parks in New York, New Jersey, and the surrounding area are attended by hundreds of thousands of individuals-especially throughout the sunny summer months. However, these small amusement parks often don’t undergo strict inspections and have lenient maintenance schedules-unlike larger, more well-known parks in places like California and Florida. Indeed, it’s safe to say that even though these smaller parks throughout the northeast have much smaller attendance records, they see a much higher percentage of accidents and injuries.

In fact, a Fox News Investigation revealed that two of the most dangerous amusement parks in the world are right in our backyard:

  1. Action Park (New Jersey)
  2. Rye Playland (New York)

Under New York premises liability law, amusement parks are responsible (legally liable) for any injuries that patrons may suffer while responsibly enjoying the entertainment and rides at any of these parks.
