Fatal Motorcycle Accident in New York City Involved Multiple Vehicles

A tragic motorcycle accident in New York City involving not one but two motor vehicles earlier this month left the rider dead, officials say. On April 5th a motorcycle riding southbound on the Henry Hudson Parkway was struck by a minivan near 125th Street in Manhattan. The rider was thrown from the bike and hit by an SUV that was following close behind. Police and EMTs rushed to the scene and quickly secured the area. The motorcyclist was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Photos from the scene show the entire hood and windshield of the SUV caved in from the force of the impact.

The drivers of both vehicles stayed at the scene and were cooperating with the police. Unfortunately, more often than not when a motorcyclist is involved, the motorcyclist is thought to be at least partially at fault for the accident.

Indeed, bikers who have been injured in a motorcycle accident in New York City have to fight to overcome a societal bias against them. Investigators, insurance agents, jurors, and even NYPD officers have often been unconsciously programmed to perceive motorcyclists as reckless and prone to doing dangerous things while on the road. That bias is partially based on entertainment media but also news media reports that often automatically see accidents from the point of view of the motor vehicle operators, not the bikers.

That bias makes it difficult for riders who are injured in a motorcycle accident in New York City to get the financial compensation they deserve. That is why it is critical that these accident victims seek the assistance of an experienced motorcyclist accident attorney in New York City as soon as possible. In order to safeguard your right to compensation, the attorney will timely obtain the witness statements, NYPD accident and investigation reports and conduct all the other necessary investigation.
