Two Women Injured in Dog Attack in Long Island

On Behalf of | Nov 14, 2017 | Animal Attacks

Two women were severely injured in a vicious dog attack in Long Island earlier this month. One of the victims was walking her small dog on a leash along the sidewalk when two larger dogs broke free from a home and attacked it. The smaller dog’s owner tried to fend off the large animals and was bitten in the process. The victim suffered several lacerations and had a portion of her ear bitten clean off. Eyewitnesses report that she was simply “covered in blood.”

The larger dogs’ owner rushed out of the house shortly after the attack began and tried to control her animals but she too was bitten in the melee, suffering lacerations to her foot and lower leg.

Neighbors who heard the attack attempted to separate the dogs from the women. At least one of these eyewitnesses told reporters that the big dogs were dangerous and neighbors had been reported to officials multiple times but nothing had yet been done about them.

Eventually the two larger dogs were brought under control and both victims were treated for their injuries. While neither woman suffered life-threatening bites, at least one will have lifelong scars due to this unprovoked and vicious dog attack.

A dog’s owner is responsible for an attack by the animal he or she owns and liable for any injuries the animal may cause to innocent victims. When an owner fails to control or proper leash their dog, they could face civil lawsuits seeking compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost wages.
