School Bus Accidents in New York City Likely to Rise as Fleet Ages and Fails

While the actual number of school bus accidents in New York City stayed fairly constant over this past year when compared to figures collected in prior years, one report suggests that might change in the very near future. The report, released in August of 2019, found the number of school bus service interruptions (including those caused by vehicle breakdowns) increased by a massive 73% over the past four years. During the period between 2018 and 2019, there were over 109,000 service interruptions. While 60% of those were blamed on traffic congestion, nearly 10,000 of those were caused by mechanical failures.

First Fatal Pedestrian Accident in New York City in 2020 Claims Life of Elderly Woman

An elderly woman was killed early this month in what is believed to be the first fatal pedestrian accident in New York City. The woman, a 74-year-old resident of Queens, was walking along Northern Boulevard near the intersection with Parsons Boulevard around 6 in the evening when she was struck by a car and killed. EMTs arrived at the scene of the accident within minutes but nothing could be done. The victim had already passed away.

Apartment Fire in New York City Injures 5

Five people were sent to the hospital earlier this week after an apartment fire in Harlem. The fire broke out at 480 Convent Avenue in Manhattan around 1:30 in the morning on January 1st. The blaze started inside a single unit in the building and quickly spread-engulfing the entire apartment. It sent toxic smoke and fumes throughout the building.

This latest construction accident in Manhattan happened on December 13th at a job site along West 118th Street near 5th Avenue at around 9:30 in the morning. The crew was installing siding onto a newly constructed building when the ground beneath the mechanical lift they were using gave way.
