Brooklyn Boy Dies in Drowning Accident at a Waterpark

A terribly drowning accident has claimed the life of a nine-year-old Brooklyn boy. The child was on a camp trip with a group of others and adult supervisors from Belzer Talmud Torah when tragedy struck. The group had traveled to a waterpark in New Jersey for a fun summer outing with several other groups. Somehow the nine-year-old drowned in this very public place with hundreds of people around and paid lifeguards on duty.

Two Fatal Bicycle Accidents in New York City on the Same Day

Two bicycle accidents in New York have claimed the lives of a pair of riders, bringing the total number of cyclists killed on city streets this year to 17. That number is far higher than the number of people killed on bicycles during this same period last year and puts NYC on pace to make 2019 a trend-shattering year for tragic bicycle accidents. This even as the city spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on seemingly ineffectual safety improvements.

Jet Skis and Other Personal Watercraft Caused Serious Boating Accidents in New York City Every Year

When we think of boating accidents in New York City, we often picture fast pleasure craft smashing into debris and obstacles in the river or massive tankers and other commercial craft crowding out much smaller boats. But one danger on the rivers and waterways surrounding New York City often goes unnoticed-until it's too late. Personal watercraft (Jet Skis, Sea-Doos, and other high-powered craft) zip along these waterways at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, endangering not only the riders but also innocent victims out for a fun day of recreation in the hot summer sun.

Lawsuit to Prevent Staircase Injuries in New York City Makes It Past First Hurdle

A lawsuit filed by a nonprofit agency against the MTA can proceed according to the ruling of a judge in the New York State Supreme Court in June of this year. This lawsuit was filed against the MTA on behalf of disabled individuals with limited mobility who literally risk life and limb to access the MTA's subways system in New York City. The suit claims that the City's failure to provide access to the underground dramatically increases the risk (and real life incidents) of staircase accidents in New York City.

Fatal Bicycle Accident in New York is the 15th Such this Year

A Citi Bike rider was killed in a fatal bicycle accident in New York City earlier last month when an overland freight hauler ran over him on a busy stretch of street in Hudson Yards. The 74-year-old man was rushed to nearby Bellevue Hospital with what appeared to be severe but survivable injuries-including a partially severed leg-but he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The driver of the UPS freight truck stayed at the scene of the crash and cooperated with police officers investigating the crash.
