New York City Bus Accident Leaves Passengers Shaken

On Behalf of | Mar 24, 2020 | Bus Accidents

A terrifying New York City bus accident on the highway east of the city left nearly 50 passengers shaken but no serious injuries were reported. The “Megabus” was nearly full to capacity with 48 passengers and the driver and bound for New York City from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania when it struck a tractor-trailer. The crash happened on February 25th at around 5:30 in that afternoon along a stretch of Interstate 80 near Blairstown, New Jersey.

Reports from the crash site state that the bus actually rear-ended the truck, leaving police investigators and victims wondering how and why. One of the victims reported that the driver was driving erratically and had “swerved” across multiple lanes on the highway about an hour prior to the crash leaving the passengers wondering about the driver’s ability to control the large motor vehicle.

Some wondered if the driver had dozed off behind the wheel but at least one person heard the driver make the self-serving statement that the bus was having mechanical problems. Despite the earlier near-miss, the trip continued until that fateful impact in New Jersey.

Thankfully, none of the passengers-nor the driver of the tractor-trailer-were seriously injured in the collision. Several reported minor injuries to EMTs who responded to the crash but all were expected to make full recoveries. However, five people were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

While the collision was reported as a “minor crash,” pictures of the bus show the entire front of the vehicle-including the windshield-smashed in. In a statement, the company which owns and operated the bus said that it was cooperating with investigators. However, the passengers were distressed that that nobody from the company even spoke with them after the crash.
