A tragic car accident in Brooklyn has left one woman dead and nine other individuals injured. Eyewitnesses say the woman was trying to get into her own car at the time she was run down. The initial crash occurred on Thanksgiving Night as the suspect, Michael McBean, drove his white Mercedes into an SUV along Pennsylvania Ave. McBean then attempted to flee the scene of the accident and then struck a pedestrian in the process.

After striking the woman, McBean allegedly tried to flee but crashed his car several more times before it became disabled. He then fled on foot, attempting to “carjack” multiple people’s cars along the way. Unable to steal any vehicles, McBean ran into traffic and was himself struck at least twice but survived.

When police were finally able to subdue McBean, they charged him with attempted robbery, leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in death, obstruction of government administration, and disorderly conduct. The pedestrian McBean hit, Yvette Molina, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

In addition to the criminal charges against him, McBean may face civil lawsuits as well including a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the victim’s surviving family members as well as pain and suffering personal injury lawsuits brought by the other surviving accident victims. Similar cases in the past have resulted in substantial monetary awards which would help the grieving family cope with the unexpected financial burden of losing a loved one.

New York City streets are congested and crowded but yet peaceful and calm. However, instantly, the serenity turns into chaos when an out of control motor vehicle is let loose on a crowded street.
