A young man was left with serious injuries and a severely damaged bike after a scary motorcycle accident in New York City earlier this month. On September 19th, the 21-year-old motorcyclist was riding along 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights when the driver of a Cadillac SUV cut into his lane. It appears as if the driver had been attempting to make a U-Turn and failed to yield the right of way to the motorcyclist. The driver sped off after the crash.
Eye witnesses to the crime called 911 and when rescue crews arrived they rushed the biker to nearby Elmhurst General Hospital. Doctors listed him in serious condition but were able to stabilize the victim but there’s no telling how long (or how painful) the recovery may be.
The NYDP officers investigating this preventable motorcycle accident in Queens are still searching for the driver-a Hispanic male between 20- and 30-years old. When the NYPD find the driver, he will face criminal charges including fleeing the scene of an accident.
But none of that will help the victim. He and his family will have to struggle with his injuries, the mounting medical expenses, and the loss of income.
However, with the assistance of a Queens motorcycle accident attorney, the victim can file a civil lawsuit against the owner and driver of the Cadillac SUV. The claim will be for pain and suffering for the injuries sustained by the motorcyclist, unpaid hospital/medical expenses along with lost wages-past, present and future. Similar cases in the past have resulted in significant financial settlements and awards which will help victims cope with the unpaid medical expenses, lost wages, and other financial burdens associated with lengthy recoveries. Not having those money worries hanging over their heads can help families concentrate on healing and help put their life back together.
