An elderly man was crossing the street in The Bronx last month when he was struck by two cars. This terrifying pedestrian accident in New York City happened at around 9PM on August 31st at the intersection of Bronxdale Avenue and Barnes Avenue.
The unnamed 65-year old man was crossing the street when he was struck first by a van heading eastbound. The impact was so great that he was actually thrown into the air and into the oncoming lane. A Honda minivan being driven by a 33-year old woman was unable to stop in time and struck the victim as he landed in its path.
When EMTs arrived they rushed the man to nearby Jacobi Medical Center with severe injuries. Doctors were unable to stabilize him and he died shortly after arrival.
The driver of the van that initially struck the pedestrian sped away from the scene. Police investigating the crash are still searching for the driver’s identity. The driver of the minivan stayed on the scene until police arrived.
