Elderly Man Mauled by Pit Bull Fights for His Life

A dog attack in The Bronx has left an elderly man in the hospital fighting for his life after he defended his young grandson from the vicious animal. 72-year-old Abdul Hakim was walking with his 9-year-old grandson early last month when a dog escaped from the owner’s daughter.

Abdul’s son witnessed the entire Bronx dog attack. He stated that the dog ripped and tore viciously at the elderly man’s arm. Afterwards, the animal then turned its viciousness on the young boy. The grandfather bravely stepped in the way and fought with the dog, suffering severe lacerations, bruising, and nasty bite wounds.

It’s unclear if the dog’s owner did anything to stop the attack but the brave grandfather was able to kick the dog away. He was left battered and bleeding and was rushed to the hospital. He has undergone one surgery to partially repair the damage but a family spokesperson says the elderly man faces at least three more extensive procedures.

Large, aggressive breeds like pit bulls and Rottweiler’s can cause an immense amount of damage in a split second, leaving victims with lifelong scars, emotional trauma, and financial hardship. The family says that the dog’s owner should pay the mounting medical expenses and the law may be on their side.

Dog bites in New York City often occur when the animal’s owners fail to properly control or restrain their animals as is their responsibility under the law. For most victims, their only hope is to have an experienced New York City dog bite lawyer on their side.
