Fatal Truck Accident in New York City Ends with Arrest

On Behalf of | Apr 14, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

A fatal truck accident in New York City late last month left one person dead and two other victims seriously injured. The accident happened on the George Washington Bridge at 2:20 on the morning of March 27th. The car in which the victims were travelling was completely destroyed in the crash. Three individuals were extracted from the twisted metal wreckage after EMTs arrived on scene. The driver of the truck fled before police arrived.

Sadly, 25-year-old Caeser Contreras was pronounced dead after being pulled from the wreck. Two women who were also in the car were transported to nearby Harlem Hospital suffering from serious undisclosed injuries.

Police responding to the crash followed evidence at the scene and tracked the driver of the truck, 23-year-old Sandhu Simranjeet Singh from North Carolina, to a rest stop in New Jersey. He was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident.

This terrible truck accident in New York City is a scary reminder of the massive destruction these vehicles can cause when not operated properly on NYC’s city streets and highways. Massive trucks, commercial vehicles, and public transportation buses can make a mangled mess of an average passenger car in a split-second and end lives in the blink of an eye.

The surviving victims of this terrible crash and the family members of the deceased victim can file suits against the at-fault driver (and the company he works for) regardless of the criminal charges against him. Such lawsuits won’t end the emotional suffering these individuals are facing but the financial compensation they may be awarded can help support families in terrible times such as this.
