An Uber accident in New York has sent a cyclist to the hospital with serious injuries. The 23-year-old victim from Rochester, New York was visiting the city, taking the sites on the back of a “shared” Citi Bike, at the time of the crash. This scary bicycle accident in Chelsea happened just before noon on September 24th as the cyclist was riding westbound on 21st Street. It’s unclear what happened next but the man somehow collided with an SUV driven by an Uber operator.
The Uber driver stayed on the scene until NYPD officers arrived. It’s unknown whether the Uber was carrying a passenger in the vehicle at the time but pictures from the bicycle accident scene in Chelsea show the Citi Bike laying in pieces on the sidewalk.
EMTs were able to stabilize the victim on the street, and then transported him to nearby Bellevue Hospital where he was listed in serious condition. It is hard to predict at this time what lasting injuries the cyclist will be left with.
