Victim of Bicycle Accident in Queens Dies Days After Crash

A terrifying bicycle accident in Queens last month has turned tragic. One of the victims, a 55-year-old woman, has succumbed to injuries she suffered after being run over by a drunk driver. Nancy Pease was participating in the 28th Annual NYC Century Bike Tour last month with a large group of cyclists when she and several others were struck by 39-year-old Abel Antonio Pina Morocho. The cyclists were stopped at an intersection in Long Island City when Morocho smashed into a cluster of them.

Police reports show that Morocho had originally stopped his Dodge behind the cyclists then unexpectedly stepped on the gas and plowed into the group of friends and riding enthusiasts. He continued to speed down the street after striking several of the bicyclists and crashed into a minivan. He was apprehended by NYPD officers and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and driving without a license.

Pease was actually trapped under Morocho’s car when he backed up after the crash. She was extricated by FDNY first responders and rushed to nearby Maimonides Hospital where she spent almost two weeks in intensive care. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries late last month leaving friends and family grieving.

While Morocho is facing several criminal charges, he could also be held liable for injuries suffered by all of the victims of this terrible bicycle accident in New York City-including the surviving family members of Mrs. Pease. The grieving family members can bring a lawsuit against the driver and vehicle owner for pain and suffering for the time Mrs. Pease survived after the accident, funeral expenses and what, if anything, she would have contributed to her family over her lifetime. The injured victims can sue for pain and suffering over their lifetimes, lost wages and unpaid medical expenses.
