As NYC gears up for the Holiday Season, tour bus companies are ramping up their services to ensure all the tourists coming to the City for the decorations, shopping and the sightseeing get the full experience. Unfortunately, these massive vehicles have a history of colliding with other cars and trucks and even smashing into the sides of buildings along the crowded streets of Manhattan. Just recently a tour bus accident in Times Square sent several victims to the hospital with varying injuries.
The double-decker sightseeing bus involved in this crash was operated by TopView Bus and is of the sort which allows tourists to hop on and off as the vehicle makes its way around the famous sites in the heart of Manhattan. The vehicle collided with a meat truck while travelling down 46th Street at about 9:00 in the morning. Even though this crash wasn’t as forceful as some that have occurred in the past, nevertheless, passengers sustained injuries.
Indeed, FDNY responders transported three victims to nearby hospitals (two to Bellevue and one to Lennox Hill). All three victims are expected to make full recoveries. However, this bus crash in New York City’s busy tourist district could have been much worse.
Reports state that the crash occurred just outside the Richard Rodgers Theater in which Hamilton is currently showing. There was a group of young children in front of the venue at the time, waiting for show time, but thankfully none of them were injured by the crash or the flying debris.
Tour bus drivers have a responsibility to their patrons to operate their vehicle safely. If an investigation into the bus crash in Manhattan uncovers that the driver of the vehicle was at fault, the company could be held financially responsible for any injuries caused.
