Bus Accident in New York City Leaves Dozens of Passengers Injured

On Behalf of | Jun 4, 2018 | Bus Accidents

A bus accident in New York City left over two dozen people injured on May 18th. Most of the injured were passengers and one of the bus drivers were hurt in the collision. The victims were riding in two separate buses through the Lincoln Tunnel when the buses collided with each other near the exit at Dyer Avenue and 40th Street. FDNY responders were on the scene within minutes and helped 32 injured individuals.

Initial reports from the scene suggest that 25 people suffered only minor injuries but the additional 7 passengers were injured more severely. Most of the injuries appeared to be back and neck injuries-typical soft tissue injuries often seen in motor vehicle collisions.

An investigation into the bus accident in the Lincoln Tunnel was launched immediately. Eye witness reports and video footage confirm that one of the buses rear-ended the other. It’s unclear what exactly caused the collision but officials suspect that one of the drivers wasn’t paying close enough attention and drove his vehicle into the other.

While most of the reported injuries were relatively minor, soft tissue injuries are not something you should ignore. What starts out as an ache or occasional twinge of pain can turn into debilitating pain which requires more extensive medical treatment and lost time from work.

If you’ve been injured in a bus accident in New York City, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately. Even if you’re not hurt badly, getting checked out by a doctor may highlight problems you didn’t even notice. You don’t want to turn a small problem into a big one. Also, the immediate treatment will document that you were injured as a result of the accident which is important if you intend to make a claim.
