Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident in Queens Leaves Teen in Critical Condition

On Behalf of | Sep 7, 2018 | Bicycle Accidents

A terrifying bicycle accident in Queens earlier this month left a young teen in critical condition fighting for his life in the hospital. The Victim, 11-year-old Richard Granville, was riding his bike on Healy Street in Far Rockaway, Queens on August 14th when he was struck from behind by a black sedan. Eye witnesses to the accident report seeing the boy fly up into the air before crashing back down to the pavement. The car sped away from the scene of the accident, leaving the teenager injured and alone.

When rescue crews arrived, they were able to stabilize the young man and rushed him to nearby Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He was listed in critical condition and is stable and is expected to survive.

While this particular bicycle accident in New York City happened at night (roughly 8PM), it’s clear from the driver’s reaction that he knew he had hit the boy.

Police tracked down and apprehended the man they say was behind the wheel at the time of this near-fatal bicycle accident in Queens. 41-year-old Agostinho Sinclair was arrested just hours after the crash and charged with reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Detectives uncovered the car where Sinclair allegedly ditched it-under some trash a few blocks away from where the boy was hit.

While this may seem like a fairly open-and-shut case, the victim and his family members face a lengthy recovery process. While the driver may be facing justice soon, the parents on behalf of their child can seek compensation from the driver and owner of the vehicle. In the event, the vehicle is not insured or does not have sufficient insurance, the parents can make a claim under the uninsured or underinsured provisions of their own automobile policy.
