Three workers were treated for relatively minor injuries after an “All Hands” fire at a high rise office building in Times Square late last month. The blaze began in the ductwork of the building and quickly spread-sending plumes of dark smoke billowing out of the building and causing the evacuation of at least one nearby hotel. There was much confusion surrounding the emergency call, including that the fire had spread to a nearby building.
Indeed, the scene caused quite a commotion with a heavy police and FDNY presence as well as a significant gathering of bystanders watching the blaze. Initial reports confused the actual location of the fire and some had worried that one of the historic theaters or high rise hotels nearby the West 45th Street location was on fire. However, it was soon apparent that the fire was actually in an adjacent building and the thick smoke in the area was deceiving witnesses.
While the fire was knocked down quickly thanks to the heavy response from the FDNY, there were a few injuries. Indeed, three workers from inside the office building reported minor injuries. Two of the injured individuals were treated at the scene and released. A third was treated at a nearby hospital for difficulty breathing.
