A near-fatal bus accident in the Bronx late last month left a woman critically injured and fighting for her life. The accident occurred on October 29th near the intersection of Bedford Park Boulevard and Paul Avenue adjacent to Lehman College. The woman was crossing the street when a Bee-Line bus attempting a left turn struck her. The 52-year-old victim was pinned underneath the vehicle and had to be extricated by EMTS.
The woman was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, she was conscious but witnesses say she had suffered severe head trauma. Reports state that after arriving at the hospital her condition declined.
Police investigators arrived at the scene. It is unclear whether NYPD officers suspect any criminality in this case because of conflicting reports of whether the woman was cross the street legally at the time of this terrifying bus accident in New York City. However, under New York law even if the woman was not crossing legally, the bus operator was required to see what there was to be seen and if the operator could have avoided the accident, the bus operator can be held liable in part for the accident.
