Three people (including at least one student) were critically injured in a school bus accident in New York earlier this month. The bus was carrying elementary school students to class on October 22nd when it collided with a commercial truck hauling heavy equipment. Pictures from the scene of the crash show the tremendous damage to the front and side of the school bus that resulted from the high-velocity impact.
EMTs rushed to the scene and had to use equipment to extricate one of the students (a little girl who was sitting directly behind the driver) from the mangle bulk of the bus. Family members report that the little girl had to stay still, trapped in the mangled wreck for over an hour while fire department officers tried to delicately pull back the twisted steel from around her.
The girl and two others were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were all listed in critical but stable condition.
Investigators trying to piece together this terrifying school bus accident in New York said that the truck cross into the oncoming lane immediately prior to striking the bus. There also appears to have been a third vehicle involved in the accident but it’s unclear at this time exactly what sparked the incident.
In similar cases, the parents of the affected children have been able to hold at-fault drivers liable for their children’s injuries. However, as this accident is still not fully understood, proving liability could become difficult. That’s why, in such cases, it’s always wise to at least consult with an experienced school bus accident attorney in New York. Such legal professionals have the experience and expertise to prosecute these sometimes-complicated cases. Applying their knowledge is the only way, parents can be assured that their children will receive the fair and adequate compensation that they are entitled to.
