Car Accident in New York City Leaves Passenger Fighting for Life

On Behalf of | Feb 12, 2021 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

A devastating car accident in Brooklyn left one woman struggling to stay alive after a speeding vehicle caused a multi-car accident in New York. The woman was a passenger in a for-hire vehicle traveling Bedford Avenue when it stopped at the intersection of Dekalb. A Dodge Charger driven by an unnamed individual blew through the intersection and smashed into the second vehicle. The woman was ejected from the for-hire vehicle and tossed onto the sidewalk after the car was pushed out of the roadway.

Both drivers were suffered only minor injuries. However, the passenger, a 32-year-old woman was seriously injured. EMTs rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

Security camera footage from the intersection shows the full force of the accident as the Honda Accord was tossed about like a child’s toy when the much heavier Dodge ran through a red light and hit the Honda at full-speed.

Speeding is one of the common contributing factors to car accidents in New York City. It also dramatically increases the likelihood of victims suffering serious, life-threatening injuries. Regardless of any traffic violations and/or criminal charges the speeding driver may be facing; the passenger may also have a rightful claim against the driver of her vehicle. The actions of her driver must be closely examined because he bears the responsibility to see what was there to be seen, under the law. If he in any way saw the speeding vehicle and did nothing to avoid the collision or minimize the impact, he too can be held partially responsible for the collision.
