Fatal Truck Accident in New York City Claims Life of Man

by | May 21, 2021 | Truck Accidents

A young man died in a fatal truck accident in New York earlier this month. The victim, a 29-year-old from Long Island, was killed when his car was struck by a large commercial delivery truck on the Long Island Expressway.

The details of the accident are still under investigation but it appears as if the victim’s car and another collided as they both attempted to turn onto Exit 60. The two drivers pulled to the side of the road, exited their vehicles to assess the damage, and then returned to their vehicles. That it was when the 18-wheel truck collided with the parked car in which the victim was seated.

The cargo truck smashed into the sedan with such force that the victim was ejected from the vehicle. When EMTs arrived at the scene of the crash, it was clear that the driver had not survived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second car involved in this tragic truck crash on Long Island was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Investigators believe visibility may have played a part in this fatal collision as the crash happened at roughly 11:30 PM.

Tragically, people are killed or seriously injured when trucks collide with automobiles. Trucks weigh multiple tons, cannot stop quickly, create their own blind spots, and are complicated to drive with sophisticated braking systems and gearboxes. In this case, the injured parties will have a claim against the owner and driver of the truck for their injuries and lost time from work.  The family of the victim that was killed will have a claim for pain and suffering for the time he survived after the accident and for the amount of money the victim would have contributed to his family over the course of his work lifetime.
