Scaffolding Accident in The Bronx Leaves Two Men Critically Injured

On Behalf of | Dec 3, 2021 | Construction Accidents

Two construction workers were rushed to a nearby hospital, fighting for their lives after a terrifying scaffolding accident in New York City late last month. The two men were working inside a building located in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx at around 2 in the afternoon on October 30th when the scaffolding they were on collapsed below their feet.

The men tumbled roughly two stories to the floor below as boards, piping, and fittings rained down all around them. EMTs arrived at the scene of the construction accident within minutes and rushed both men to Lincoln Hospital where they were both listed in critical condition.

The New York City Department of Buildings immediately issued a stop work order and launched an investigation into this tragic accident. In addition, investigators are looking into whether the scaffolding was improperly installed or maintained, or that the men were using the equipment incorrectly because of training deficiencies. Nevertheless, under the New York Labor Law, the property owner and general contractor for the project will be held absolutely liable for the accident for failing to provide proper safety equipment which caused the accident.

While prior violations are not direct evidence of wrongdoing, the building site in Hunts Point does have three previous violations on record with the DOB for 2021 alone.

An experienced scaffolding accident attorney in New York City will invoke the New York Labor Law to hold the property owner and general contractor absolutely liable for this accident to ensure that the injured workers get the maximum recovery they deserve for their injuries and lost time from work.
